Our Story

The Hammond name has long been associated with local family business in the area. Dating back to the 1830’s, the Hammond’s from Dalkey, Co. Dublin became a trusted name in the roofing trade. Following on from several generations, Nick Hammond developed his own niche in the industry. From the late 1980’s onwards, he became a specialist provider of salvage roof tiles and the sole agent for Marley roof tiles in Ireland. Nick grew the business and Hammond Slate and Tiles became a well-known provider within the roofing industry, with ‘The Yard’ a familiar landmark in Monkstown Farm over the years. Time passed and the business grew and evolved. Today Solfit is a leading provider of external wall insulation and associated home energy upgrades in Dublin and Leinster.

In recent years, the next generation of the family has joined the business with one of Nick’s four sons Mark joining the fold, taking the business into the future. As a former student of nearby CBC Monkstown Park, Mark has had a successful career in design and construction, most recently working with AECOM, a multi-national engineering and design consultancy. He brings his skills and knowledge together with an ambitious outlook towards the future growth of the business.
