How it Works
Cavity wall insulation involves filling the gap between a building’s inner and outer walls with insulating material. This cavity, common in many homes, allows heat to escape if left uninsulated. By filling it, warm air is retained inside, reducing heat loss and improving your home’s overall energy efficiency, which can lead to noticeable savings on heating bills.
Most houses built from the 1930s onward are suitable for cavity wall insulation. These homes typically feature two 4-inch walls separated by a gap, held together by wall ties. This space can be filled with NSAI certified high-density bonded beads to improve insulation. Homes built from the 1980s often already contain insulation boards, but if there’s still space in the cavity, it can be topped up with bead insulation for better thermal performance.
The SEAI Home Energy Grants programme offers grants to help you improve the insulation of your home through the installation of cavity wall insulation.

How much can you get?
Grant amounts vary by property type — with thousands of euro available. Detached homes can receive the highest support of up to €1,700, with smaller grants for semi-detached and terraced houses.
Upgrading your home with Cavity Wall Insulation is more affordable than you think. Through the SEAI grant scheme, homeowners can receive financial support to cover a significant portion of the cost — and Solfit makes the process simple from start to finish.
